1968 was a totally different type of drag racing, and I must say a more fun type than bracket racing. E/AM (E class - Amateur) meant 4 tires all the same size, and cars were classed by HP to weight ratio. I knew I was racing 442's, GTO's, Chevelle's, etc. We all had the same basic HP to weight ratio.
The class racing was heads up, first to the end won. No brakes, or breaking out crap.
The tear down was a bitch if you were protested, but that was seldom done in the amateur or stock classes.
